On 5 November, Ambassador Vladimir Maric presented in Colombo his credential letters to the President of Sri Lanka, H.E. Mr Maithripala Sirisena. During the meeting following the handover of the letters, President Sirisena expressed readiness of the Srilankan side to strengthen bilateral relations. Ambassador Maric conveyed to President Sirisena warm regards from the President of Serbia H.E. Mr Tomislav Nikolic. He pointed out that he will during his term work on further expanding traditional links between Sri Lanka and Serbia (which date back to the establishment of the Non-Aligned Movement), especially in the field of economy and sports.

Ambassador Maric also met with the Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka, H.E. Mr Karu Jayasuriya. Among other issues, they discussed ways to strengthen parliamentary cooperation, including through establishment of the Serbia Friendship Group in the Parliament of Sri Lanka.
